Does that sound like a business launch model or in any case a way how to start business? Does it sound more like a teenagers after school hobby.

If this is unusual but still it is one of to-days best ways to reach big amount of targeted target group and to launch the business with the means of viral marketing and with very low costs. If done right, the efficiency is quaranteed, because the social networking sites are very popular.

The idea is to hunt for discussion groups that focus on the business topic you have, starting chats and covertly creating hype for your clients.

Many companies are paying good money to college students for doing this, which is the sign that this kind of word of mouth marketing works. It has become a serious medium and thanks to the popularity and newness, it offers a great way how to start business straight in the right way.

The Internet metrics company com.Score reported that in June 2007 Facebook had over 52 million visitors and the rival MySpace over 114 million. The market consists over 300 social networking sites. So no doupt, the audience is there and it leaves you a challence how to start business and to draw their attention.

Those companies, which have hired an army of students to chat on behalf of themselves will meet serious backlash, if the other users will find out this.Other companies try to market their products by recruiting people for using blogs, chat rooms and social sites, who then mention the product in the copy as if it would be their own, honest opinion. These campaigns do not raise the image of these mediums and can lead to the situation, where the site become inflated.

Transparency has its problems, since most people on social networks will ignore or complain about businesses that attempt to join in. There is also concern that, as commercially minded users flood the sites, it will create an air of suspicion. It does start to get people more skeptical about things because then they have to ask, are you getting paid for this?

One dangerous feature is linked with the social networking sites. Their users are young people, who are constantly looking for the next big thing, which will shorten the lifespan of the popular sites and the whole industry.

So the long term success of these sites depends on their ability to keep the interests of their users. This requires a lot of developement because this industry shouts fresness. One of the future success factor is most obviously the technological improvements, which lift or kill some of these sites. So the question is, who will invent the next big thing? Well, it is already here and coming. It operates through mobile phones.

Facebook sees the future more as an information producer for the users rather than as a pure chat room.

So it has realized that chatting has very little value for the chatters and will invest more into real value producing things.

Social networking sites get a part of their revenue by selling advertising space, i.e. banner and text ads to their clients.

For a private entrepreneur these sites work best, when used in a personal way, like a personal blog. The posting style should be from me to you and honest. My opinion is that an enthusiastic and active presentations work best and the straight advertising should be avoided.

Social networking sites can be very beneficial to your business. However, like with anything, it can also be a waste of time if you don’t put the proper care and attention into it. Surprisingly, it takes less effort than you might imagine. Here are some simple tools to use when surfing the social networking wave.

- Be aggressive in your approach. Once you have signed up, go out and add as many friends as you can. The more friends you have, the more of an audience you can speak to.

- Add the right people. While adding anyone can’t hurt your business chances, you also want to be sure to add a majority of individuals geared toward your target audience. You don’t have to steer blind looking for them. You can go into any forum and find all the specific business professionals you could ask for.

- Join a forum. Here is a place for you to discuss relevant topics with like-minded people. You can post ads and connect with other professionals to grow your list of potential clients.

- Check your page regularly. Staying on top of new messages and alerts will keep you current on returning those messages. When others see that you are regular and quick to respond, they feel more likely to trust you.

- Update your site. Keeping your site fresh is always a plus. Whether you change the color, scheme, content, or ads, it will keep others continually checking to see what’s new with you and your business.

- Keep in contact with people. Let your “friends” know what you are up to and what you are currently offering. Remind them at least once a week what a great offer you have. This can be in a bulletin or personal message. Staying fresh in their mind means that when they are ready to do business, they will think of you first.

Utilizing social networking sites to expand your business can prove to be very beneficial, as long as you play by their rules. Follow these tips and the rest with come to fruition. Happy hunting!

A couple of years ago, the term ’social networking site’ would have drawn blank looks from all but the technologically savviest of us. Now, websites such as Facebook and MySpace have a global currency to rival brands such as Coca-Cola and Nike.

Initially frequented by teenagers and university students, the sites are increasingly popular among people of all ages. Recently, the average age of users of Facebook was found to be 32.

The publicity potential is huge. Most celebrities have spotted an excellent avenue for self-promotion. According to a recent study by JupiterResearch, 33 per cent of European online advertisers plan to launch their own profiles on social networking sites in the next year.

And charities, quite rightly, want a piece of the pie.

Many have already got in on the act. There are countless unofficial groups dedicated to charities on Facebook but the organisations are now taking the initiative and creating their own online ventures.

Oxfam has a new online charity shop which hopes to raise £2m a year. Currently over 50,000 donated items are available, along with goods such as Fairtrade chocolate and coffee, jewellery and other gifts.

Everyclick provides an online fundraising platform where users can donate to or be sponsored for any UK charity. Everyclick is also a search engine which donates 50% of its advertising revenue to charities, chosen by the user as they search the web.

Charity blogging has also seen big growth. Oxfam has its own blog on MySpace, while visitors to Second Life, Actionaid’s networking site, can tour WWF’s virtual conservation island.

The Royal British Legion has taken advantage of the power of social networking and has created a virtual poppy for Facebook users. Although the poppy badge does not directly earn the charity any money, they hope it will spur people on to make a donation.

Google has also developed an application programming interface called Opensocial, which will enable the creation of Facebook-like applications, including charity badges, on any social networking site. Everyclick provides its users with a ‘widget’ which can be added to any website, through which people can search and donate directly to the charity chosen by the user.
In short, many different methods, one aim.

Brand Control

But where there are benefits there are risks.

Networking sites can also be used to quickly spread misinformation and negative publicity, and there is always the chance people will bypass institutions altogether and locate beneficiaries themselves, recently noted in the Guardian.

Nate Elliott, senior analyst at JupiterResearch, issues the following words of warning: “As it stands, most European advertisers are jumping on the engagement marketing bandwagon without truly understanding which tactics represent the most appropriate and effective use of their marketing resources.”

Will it work?

Research suggests a more personalised approach is effective at converting awareness to giving. A recent survey by Harris Interactive revealed that 61 per cent of people gave to charities because a personal connection asked them to make a contribution.

And there is an element too, however subconscious or subdued, of wanting to flaunt your goodness, as well as ask people to share in it, which should give charities hope.

Everyclick is an online fundraising website and charity search engine with philanthropic ideals.

Donate, sponsor, search and shop all from one site.

Getting a high traffic website is directly tied into how easily accessible you are in the search engines. The search engines if managed correctly can turn your lackluster internet business into an overnight success. The problem that occurs when trying to get high rankings with the search engines is the competition that you will encounter for the same keywords. There are ways that you can top your competition even if several competitors are using the same keywords. The easiest and most effective way to conquer your competitors is to get more backlinks. If you are trying to find a way to increase your page rank, you will have to get thousands of backlinks. Today I will share with you some ways to generate thousands of backlinks to increase your page ranking.

The most common method of getting more backlinks to your website or blog is to research other similar websites that have high page ranks and solicit them for a reciprocal link. A reciprocal link is when you agree to add another marketer’s link on your website in return they will advertise your link. This method can be time consuming and very difficult because someone with a high page rank is usually not interested in a link exchange, especially from a lesser page rank website. If you still want to pursue this method you should send the website owner an email stating your interest in a reciprocal link and patiently wait for a response.

Forums are great sources to get thousands of backlinks. Forums are indexed by the search engines on a regular basis, so when you make a post to your favorite forum, it gets picked by the search engines. Make sure that when you sign up for a forum to leave your website or you business opportunities in your forum signature. The advantages of a creating a forum signature is, when someone clicks on a forum topic that was indexed by the search engines, they will have a direct link to your website from your forum signature. The more post you make to different topics, the more backlinks you will create to your website.

Writing articles on topics relating to your website and submitting your articles to article directories will also help to get more backlinks. The key to article writing is to write to write in a way that your audience understands; it doesn’t have to be very technical. Most newbie marketers get intimidated by this method, but it is actually one of the simplest and best producing methods you can use to get thousands of backlinks. The most popular article directories are Goarticles and Ezine articles. Before you submit your article, read their instructions carefully, they do have some guidelines that are mandatory.

Web 2.0 is the new wave that is taking the internet into the next generation of Advertising. The main ingredient of the Web 2.0 concept is social networking websites. Social networking sites are quickly becoming the most popular and effective way to get thousands of backlinks to your website. Basically Web 2.0 sites like Digg, Reddit, and Sphinn provide high pr backlinks to your website. Social networking sites are very Google friendly and you do not have to write a 500 word article to create a backlink. There are literally thousands of social networking and bookmarking sites popping up everyday. Internet marketers are taking advantage of the social marketing phenomenon by generating thousands of backlinks to their perspective sites. Currently there are bookmarking softwares that allow you post to hundreds social networking websites with just one click.

The next time you are thinking of bringing more visitors to your website or increasing your page rankings remember these methods. The internet changes everyday but core is always a constant, getting thousands of relevant backlinks to your website will always increase relevance with the search engines.

For many, the start of a new year means the start of a new job search using the internet to research employers. For up coming college graduates in particular, it is opportunity to get a head start in getting their careers off the ground using online resources. At the same time, many employers are also researching potential job candidates through Google, Myspace.com and Facebook.com and what they are finding could be used as reasons not to hire you.

A recent poll conducted for Careerbuilder.com showed that 26 percent of hiring managers admitted to using the Internet to perform background checks on job candidates. A further 12 percent admitted to using social networking sites such as MySpace.com and Facebook.com as a screening tool.

For many college students, social networking sites such as Facebook.com and Myspace.com are a core part of their cyber profile used for networking. However, many students are surprised to learn that their candid and sometimes sexually explicit photos and the details of their drinking and dating lives in their profiles can negatively affect their job search. Those disparaging comments, risqué photos, inappropriate language and lewd jokes posted on their profiles could be viewed as a reflection of their character by a potential employer.

According to an HR director, people should carefully consider their potential audience and the impression they may have based on your pictures, personal opinions, and ideas posted online. “We were in the process of extending an offer to a great candidate, until his myspace.com page was brought to our attention. He had a great resume, went to an elite school and had impeccable references. However, our review of his myspace profile highlighted his recreational drug use. This made us immediately reconsider hiring him,” says an HR Director for a financial services company in Toronto, Ontario. “Our company is very conscious of client relations and our public image and we could not risk this candidate’s background being taken as a reflection of our organization. “

A recent poll of Resume Solutions student clients showed that over 60% of the respondents were unaware that their profiles on social networking websites could be viewed by potential employers. This is surprising, despite the increased media attention focused on employers reviewing Myspace and Facebook prior to making hiring decisions.
Prior to starting a new job search, it is recommended that job seekers perform a Google search on their names to find out what a potential employer may read or see about them online. If any questionable content is discovered, content you would not feel comfortable if an employer or your parents view, then request that the site’s webmaster remove it immediately. Questionable content may include nude photos, slanderous comments or photographs that show you in inappropriate situations. Keep in mind you may encounter resistance in getting the content removed, however, you can let them know that they may be affecting your future job prospects and you may have no choice but to seek legal recourse. For that information, that you absolutely cannot have removed due to lack of control, construct a plausible answer to counter or explain away to a hiring manager.
We are not advocating that social networking sites are to be used solely for job searching or building a web portfolio of your resume and job skills, but it makes sense to remove as much of the negative content about yourself as is possible. You should be smart and discreet in your online communications and consider creating private profiles for just your family members and friends.
There are many ways to create a “positive cyber profile” that does not affect your career prospects. College students can create personal web pages and profiles at social networking sites that include their resumes, hobbies and interests, details on leadership activities or academic successes. You can also include photos of yourself but ensure they do not include explicit materials. Job seekers can use their online profiles to demonstrate their excellent communication skills, establish a professional image of themselves prior to an in-person meeting, demonstrate their creativity and diverse interest – things that can set them apart from other job seekers.

As more and more users flock to social networking sites, the affect these sites have on the job search and candidate screening may include employers going even deeper into candidate’s personal and professional lives. It is therefore advisable to put nothing online that have the potential to hurt your future job prospects and include anything that would help you in landing a new job. Use common sense when creating an online profile. Remember that employers who do online searches are looking for reasons not to hire you.

Should you accept them all, or try to accept some while ignoring others? Most importantly, how can you nurture these relationships in a beneficial way to advance your career?

For most part, the rules in the real world should work in the virtual world, too. For social networking sites, it is important to follow up on the contacts that you have built.

Easy Networking

Though networking sites make it easy to connect with different people, adding contacts on your online networking site is only the first step in effective networking. It is just like getting a business card at a formal party – you have to follow up and keep in touch with your contacts.

Making valuable contacts and then letting them drop is one of the biggest mistakes that you can make.

Maintaining Identities

If you prefer that your boss doesn’t find out about several aspects of your personal life, then it is possible and preferable that you separate your work life from your virtual personal life. This can be done on almost any of the social networking sites today.

You can let your boss know that you are setting up a dedicated page for professional contacts, and can ask him to be added as a friend there. This should be done in a gracious manner, but you should take care to keep this page separate from your personal page.

Invitations and Recommendations

At times, you might receive an invitation from someone you don’t really relate to. It is not necessary to reject them right away – this could be seen as being rude. You can accept the invitation, but take no further action. You do not need to endorse that particular person.

You should use social networking sites to strengthen ties with your business associates by garnering recommendations from them, and by posting referrals for them.

Confidentiality

Always know your company’s policy. You don’t want to post or mention something on the site that is a company secret without realizing it. Many companies conduct searches on the Internet and monitor blog posts, so always take care with what you post online. Nothing meant for internal correspondence or anything that your company believes can harm their business prospects should be visible on your networking page.

Apart from this, you should also be extremely careful when posting pictures online. No photos that might show you in an embarrassing situation, or relating to nudity or drug use should be posted on your networking page. You should also refrain from posting material that may be politically incorrect.

Your idea is to increase your business prospects, and not make personality statements. Stick to your goal when using social networking sites, and your career will benefit.

One of the quickest, easiest and cheapest ways to generate website traffic today online is through the use of online social networking sites. The traffic you can get is very targeted and can be long term or residual traffic if set up right. Many of these sites can also provide your website with backlinks from these powerful authority networks which pass along there page rank to you, which will help your website gain popularity in the search engines.

Types Of Online Social Networking Sites

There are many different types of sites that you can sign up for and utilize in your marketing arsenal. Some of these websites give you the opportunity to advertise for free on their networks cheaply and also offer affordable paid advertising spots for increased targeted traffic to your business website or blog.

Other online social networking sites are simply share sites where you can share websites you like with other members or upload videos to watch. These social bookmarking sites are like browser bookmarks except you are storing them online and they can be viewed by the public. Sometimes these bookmarks can pass along a nice high PR backlink to either a blog post that you have written or a website you have. After you bookmark it, other people can save it as well in their accounts and share it with others.

Video online social networking sites like YouTube offer users the chance to upload and share videos with the world. Using video is an effective way to get the message out about a product or service which sometimes is hard to write in words. If you are an affiliate marketer you can do a product review with video and give the user a real inside look at what it is you are selling and show things that can’t be done with words.

There are many different categories of online social networking sites, but they all share one thing in common. They bring together like minded people and offer them the chance to share their ideas and thoughts with everyone in the group. Many new and emerging networks are built around niches that target a particular group of people.

The one thing to keep in mind before attempting to use a social networking website for traffic is that if you come across as a spammer, the chances are that you will not get the desired results. It is very important from the start that you right away establish yourself as a real person and offer as much value as possible to the community. Doing this will ensure that you maximize your time and your efforts will be rewarded greatly.

With the advent of the internet, the whole world has shrunk to the size of your laptop. People can connect to other people with similar interests across thousands of miles. While critics of the internet find many disadvantages in the whole situation, there are a lot of advantages in being able to find friends and clients across the world for both individuals and businesses. And the web sites facilitating these fruitful connections are the vast majority of highly popular social networking sites on the internet. Some of the main advantages of social networking for both individuals and for businesses are discussed below:

Social Networking for Individuals: In a world where people are getting busier with their lives day by day, social networking sites are doing a great job of bringing friends, families and even strangers closer. Just imagine the joy of finding your long lost child- hood best friend on a social networking site like orkut.com or classmates.com. Most of us have gone through this experience and we all know that it is something that cannot be described easily in words.

Apart from connecting with old friends, you get to meet a whole lot of new people on these social networking web sites, and contrary to popular belief, not all of them are fakes. There are a wide number of good people like you who are out in the wide wide cyber world who are just as lonely as you are and are looking for like minded friends or companions. And a number of them have also succeeded at it. In fact it is so common that we all know people who met on line and are happily married today.

Social Networking for Businesses: While almost everyone is aware of the advantages of social networking for individuals, not many businesses are aware of the huge potential that this has in store for them. Joining a social networking site is one of the best and easiest ways of advertising about your business. What is more is that it is absolutely free. And on top of this, most such web sites will give you ample space to talk about your products and services.

It is a great method of increasing your client base and you are not even restricted by geographical boundaries. So while you can make a community of local businesses in order to garner your local target customer, you can also join communities of other similar businesses in order to be conspicuous to the overseas buyer who is sitting in another country or continent. It is an absolute win-win situation for you, so if havent joined a site till now, it is time that you did it right away!

According to news by BBC, Business 2.0 magazine has named StumbleUpon the number one social media company. It is a net discovery site founded in the year 2001, has member strength of more than 2 million registered users. The Web 2.0 traffic concept has been growing in strength after this evidence of traffic generation and more business companies are trying to shift business from the earlier model of Web 1.0 concept.

Tim O’ Reilly was one of the first to use the term Web 2.0. According to him, it is a web-based software that is updated constantly and mutually. One of the primary concepts of Web 2.0 traffic is remixing; and the more number of people consume it the better it functions.

A group of people has to build up social networks to properly use the service. Web 2.0 is the new trend in web designing and development, and mainly refers to supposedly second generation of online population, that is to say, communities and hosted services, such as social networking sites, folksonomies and wikies. Folksonomies aim at creating collaborative environment, creativity and sharing between groups.

Talking of social networks Digg, Stumble Upon and Propeller are the best places to get started with Web 2.0 traffic. Anything to share you can post it on Digg. Digg’s Alexa traffic ranking is below 200. StumbleUpon has its traffic ranking under 300 and Propeller has its ranking under 2000. The entire ranking is among 2 million plus websites that comes under the shroud of major search engines.

Therefore, when a ‘would be blogger’ is trying to get noticed then it is always advisable to come under the shadow of something big to start with. Build something, put it in the shadow of something already established and let it move on when it grows up.

Web 2.0 traffic needs promotion like every other business ventures. News and blogs are the most important of the elements to attract visitors, and traffic with them. News, videos, podcasts, images all is part of the community build-up process in Digg.

Blogs get comments and through this link baits can be made. Link baits are useful links redirected to the target website through an informative article. Information is shared through communities like Propeller, StumbleUpon and Facebook. No matter what the type of information is, personal or commercial, it can be passed on through social networking sites.

Web 2.0 traffic perception has created hype in the mind of the consumers as well as the executives. It is easy to know the concept, but to implement it is a lot harder. The new web concept can create a new enterprise solution, but – “do you need it?” and if yes then “by how?” are the two foremost things that are creating the confusion. Realistic use within an organization can transform Web 2.0 to Enterprise 2.0.

When Google started its online community Orkut, it was an instant hit. It zoomed in on millions of netizens all over the world. Facebook, another community, was started in the Google path. It became another craze and in September 2007 it topped the chart in terms of network traffic.

Online communities are nothing but social networks. They follow the new web concept of build a house and let it serve itself. The Bit torrent community also follows the same concept to create its own Web 2.0 traffic. One system acts as a server or seeder and other leech files from it. They are called leechers. When the sharing is 100% complete the leechers become the seeders; the process continues, building collaborative intelligence, the final end point for total development.

Social network sites in some cases can be considered the ‘duct tape’ of the global communications community. What had once hit the internet scene as an online ‘location’ for the ‘younger’ generation to communicate socially is now big business.

Combining with the technology of the internet and connecting global online communities, these sites are now recognized for their ability to attract large audiences. The ability to communicate thoughts, ideas, news, or other forms of information within and amongst these various online communities around the world 24/7 couldn’t be ignored.

The popularity of these type sites stem from their ‘casual’ structure which in turn attracted the masses that today are captivated by the many social networks online.
Of course it didn’t take long for marketers ranging from 5th Avenue down to small ‘mom and pop’ entrepreneurs to realize and harness the potential and power of these sites.

Social network marketing has uncorked a completely new mindset and direction for both the mainstream and small-time marketers. The emphasis on relationship marketing is a strong indication of the unilateral shift in this ‘internet age’ marketing mindset.

The acceptance and embrace of social networks have now spawned sites that cater to an older generation as well as those that focus on working professionals. Whether discussing health issues, current events or business strategies these type sites have revealed an AWESOME POTENTIAL.

Social network marketing today is quickly becoming the online marketing approach of choice due to its ability to develop more personal and long term relations with customers. This relationship marketing really harkens back to ‘the day’ when a handshake could ’seal’ a deal. The value of trust has now been rediscovered on the internet. The irony here is the internet was once considered the MOST impersonal way of communicating since interpersonal contact was minimized due to the technologies involved.

Online marketing seemingly has turned the corner with the increasing use of these type sites as a favorable platform on which to implement many business strategies.

Growing steadily in use, popularity, and sites, social networks are casting a larger shadow on the internet horizon. Both the business and communication potential these sites possess has now been identified.

Whatever your reasons or purpose may be social network sites seem to be the easiest and most effective means to spread the word. From an online marketing perspective, the growth rate and potential customer base these sites offer is undeniable, too tempting to pass up, and by no means should not be ignored!
